Movember at MOSIC

It’s that special time of year again. That time when you start to see an increase in facial hair in the workplace, on the tram, or at your local coffee shop. November, or Movember as it is now known, forms part of an initiative by the Movember Foundation to raise awareness for men’s health and starting the conversation for males to voice their health concerns. At MOSIC our team will be once again participating in Movember to help raise much needed funds to provide the most innovative research to have both a global and local impact

Over the next month, Osteopaths Dr Aidan Sianidis and Dr Catherine Allison will be guiding you through a blog series outlining the importance of medical history in osteopathic treatment. Here at MOSIC we firmly believe that a detailed and accurate medical history taken during a thorough Initial Consultation is a key element in helping you achieve your health, fitness and wellbeing goals.

If you have already had the pleasure of a consultation with one of the practitioners at our Centre, you’ll recall the initial process of being asked many questions, some of which may have surprised you at the time. You may have even sat there thinking “What does this have to do with my injury?” This is a very common reaction so don’t feel at all embarrassed if you’ve had this thought.

But rest assured that we never ask questions just for the sake of it. There is a method to our madness, and developing a complete understanding of your overall health is just as important to us as the whereabouts of your pain. The information you offer us, which may initially seem unrelated to your presenting complaint, will often lead to a light-bulb moment for your practitioner (or yourself). It’s this type of thinking that allows us to truly get to the root of your complaint. Not only can this information identify a reason for the injury occurring, it can also reveal any limitations to the healing process and the time required to get you back to your favourite activities. The fact that this approach works provides some fascinating insight in to the wonder of the human body.

So throughout November watch this space. The first article in our blog series will be about the implication of previous injuries and the history of your presenting complaint. Together lets use November to spread the word about men’s health and lifestyle choices, and, if you feel so inclined, to grow your mo and support a good cause.

Dr Catherine Allison and Dr Aidan Sianidis are both Osteopaths at our Centre. They have a wealth of experience treating all sorts of acute and chronic complaints, from sporting injuries to general health concerns.
